I am not the original owner of a vehicle in which a Patrol Power fuse block or harness is installed. Can you provide a wiring diagram?

Our resources extend to our install guides & product manuals. For some products there is a designated install procedure, but wire routing and fuse & circuit assignment are at the discretion of the installer anyway. See: Downloads

Gen IGen IIFasTech

When I connect power to my Gen II fuse block, the timed circuits already have power before starting the ignition. What's wrong?

The Gen II fuse block uses a latching relay which doesn't function like most relays. It needs to be triggered closed and actively triggered open by the timer module. The symptom means that the timer and the relay are out of sync. To fix it, power the unit from the battery then cycle power on and off to the ignition input wire. This will allow the timer to sense both an "ignition on" and an "ignition off" event to begin countdown and synchronize.

Note also, this behavior has been fixed in a firmware update. Please coordinate with us first, but if you want to send your timer module in, we will update the firmware at no charge.

Gen IITimer

I turn off the ignition, but the timer doesn't start its countdown and the timed circuits don't turn off. What's wrong?

If the vehicle is connected to a charger, the timer may not start the countdown due to “voltage sense”.

For Gen I timer, voltage sense cannot be disabled. If the vehicle is plugged in, it's not expected to be a problem, that's just how it works. For more info, see:

If these instructions do not resolve the issue or if voltage sense is not the problem, then your timer may be faulty. Contact us if you would like further troubleshooting assistance, which may lead to RMA replacement.

Why is there no output on my timed circuits despite the ignition signal being connected to the timer and the ignition being turned on?

Did you meter for voltage at the timer itself? Does the timer LED turn solid green (active)? Does the timer output circuit have voltage going to the relay? Does the multimeter show connectivity across the input/output studs?

We recommend tracing the 12v signal to see where it is present / not present: before input to the timer; after the timer on the output circuit to the relay.

Why do my timed circuits stay on after the timer times out?

  1. Is there voltage on the ignition input to the timer? Does the timer have voltage sense enabled and is the vehicle voltage over 13.8v? Does the timer output circuit have 12v? Is there connectivity across the relay studs?

    We advise tracing the 12v circuit logic to isolate the problem to whether the timer or relay could be faulty by verifying inputs/outputs with ignition on and off.

  2. One other possibility to check is whether any of the timed circuits are providing feedback power to the timer. To troubleshoot:

    1. Ensure the ignition is off and the timer is timed out. You may wish to put the timer into test mode. Check the documentation for details:

    2. With the timer already OFF and the timed circuits (errantly) energized, remove the timed circuit fuses one by one until the timed circuits are no longer energized. Check the status of remaining timed circuits after removing each one.
    3. The component connected to the circuit which, when removed, caused other timed circuits to de-energize, is identified as feeding power back into the fuse block.
    4. This can be corrected by connecting the offending device to a constant circuit, by installing a diode inline, or by adding a dedicated relay to power that component.

What is the purpose of the non-timed ignition output on the Gen II?

The non-timed ignition output is designed to be used as an ignition trigger input to electronics that feature their own built-in timers such as video systems. It is not designed to supply power electronics or power ports, etc. because that circuit supplies limited current which is only suitable for signal detection.

How do I use the siren attenuator on the Gen I products?

The siren attenuator loop is designed as a swappable plug attached to the fuse panel bracket. The pass-through plug included with the fuse panel simply passes the unmodified siren signal.

The attenuator plug is similar but includes a resistor inline which dampens the siren output for use inside a garage for safe volume levels when testing and troubleshooting.

Gen I

I have an older Gen II fuse block and need to replace the timer. Do you offer replacement timers for older Gen II fuse blocks?

Our earlier Gen II fuse panels used a 5-pin timer submodule. Later versions (since 2022) have used a 6-pin timer module. The newer model includes numerous improvements. We may be able to track down an older timer upon request but they are no longer manufactured and we do not list them anymore. Contact us if you need us to look into this.
